About WebPixEdit
WebPixEdit is a free image editor that runs entirely in your web browser. You can retouch photos, paint, combine images with layers and masks, and open or save Photoshop (PSD) files without installing anything or creating an account.
Why it exists
Many online editors are either very limited or require you to upload your pictures to a server. WebPixEdit aims to offer the features people expect from a desktop editor, such as layers, selections, curves and masks, in a page that opens instantly and keeps your files on your own device.
How it works
The editor is a static website. All the image processing is done by your browser using the canvas API, so there is no upload step and no server that could store or inspect your pictures. The program code is loaded from this site only, and the only third-party component is an open-source library (ag-psd, MIT license) that reads and writes PSD files and is loaded only when you open or save a PSD.
What you can do with it
- Edit with layers, groups, masks, clipping masks, blend modes and layer styles.
- Select with rectangle, ellipse, lasso, polygonal lasso, magic wand and color range.
- Retouch with the clone stamp, healing brushes, blur, sharpen, smudge, dodge and burn.
- Correct color with twenty adjustments and non-destructive adjustment layers, and apply nineteen filters.
- Open PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC (where supported) and PSD, and export PNG, JPEG, WebP or PSD.
Known limits
- Files up to 40 MB; images over about 24 megapixels are scaled down when opened.
- PSD support is practical rather than complete: smart objects, vector shapes and some adjustment types are not editable, and text layers open as pixel layers.
- The editor is built for desktop browsers. It works on tablets, but small screens are cramped.
- Up to 40 layers and 100 undo steps.
Languages
The editor and this website are available in English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese. Use the language menu in the page header to switch.
Keeping the site free
WebPixEdit is developed and maintained independently. To cover hosting and development time the site may show advertising; the privacy policy explains what that involves. Advertising never has access to the images you edit.
