How to use it
- Add your images. Photos with a plain, evenly lit background work best.
- The background color is detected from the image edges. You can also turn that off and click the preview to pick the color yourself.
- Raise the tolerance until the background is gone, and use the edge settings to clean up the outline. Switch the result preview with the buttons above it.
- Choose PNG or WebP to keep the transparency, then process and download.
Tips
- If a shadow or a gradient remains, increase the tolerance a little at a time. Too high a value eats into the subject.
- Use "background connected to the image edges" so that colors inside the subject are kept. Use "every pixel with a similar color" to also clear holes, for example between an arm and the body.
- Shrinking the edge by 1 or 2 pixels removes the thin light outline left around the subject.
- To put the subject on a new color, turn on the fill option.
Frequently asked questions
Does this use AI?
No. It compares colors, which is fast and keeps your image on your device. That also means it handles plain backgrounds well and complex backgrounds poorly.
Why does it not work on my photo?
The background is probably not a single color: trees, rooms and crowds cannot be separated by color alone. Try a photo taken in front of a plain wall or sheet.
How do I keep the transparency?
Save as PNG or WebP. JPG cannot be transparent, so it fills the background with a color.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The background is removed in your browser.
